About the School

Its History ……
Originally the village of Old Leake had two schools, one at Commonside and one at Church End. Our present school was built in 1973 to accommodate the growing needs of the community. When the primary school at Leverton was closed, Old Leake became the designated school for Leverton children and many of them were taken on roll at Old Leake Primary School, thus making it a sizeable village school.

In January 1994, the school became Grant Maintained and has been a Foundation School since April 1999.

Present Day ……
The governors and staff are rightly proud of Old Leake Primary & Nursery School, but we are always striving to improve the learning opportunities for all through offering an exciting and enjoyable curriculum.
We have a team of talented and dedicated teachers and support staff who also work with the children to continually improve the school environment at all times. We teach and model children to respect and care for others, in the belief that they will become valued members of society.

Buildings ……
The school has nine classrooms, a Learning Mentors’ room, a hall and a library, which has recently been completely refurbished. There is a large sports field, a multi-use games area and a hard play area. The Foundation stage outside area offers an attractive, practical, extension of the indoor learning environment for our youngest children. There is an adventure playground situated next to the Nursery, which is used by the whole school throughout the year as it has an all weather surface. Our conservation area is also used by the whole school, as yet another outside learning resource.

ICT has a high priority in our school, and so we have recently updated our resources to include 64 wireless laptop computers, enabling the children to utilise ICT as a learning tool, as and when required.

We also have a purpose-built Nursery which opened in June 1996. This caters for pupils from the age of three plus. Early registration for either Nursery or reception class is always advisable as there may be a waiting list. Admission meetings are held on a regular basis by Governors when applications for enrolment are considered.

Staff ……
Alongside the Headteacher, the school has a staff of an Assistant Headteacher, a Foundation Stage/Key Stage 1 Leader, A NACE Leader (for the needs of the more able learners) and five other full-time Teachers. A SENCO (for those pupils requiring additional support with their learning), two Learning Mentors, two Family Support Workers and ten Teaching Assistants. Seven Midday Supervisors, an Administrator, a Bursar, a Caretaker and Cleaner. The school is also indebted to many parents and community members who freely give up their time to help with, making resources and other activities.

Governors ……
The governors are responsible for the ethos and reputation of the school. They are also in a very direct sense, employers of the staff and custodians of the buildings and grounds. They represent a wide spectrum of local interests, and the Parent Governors are always willing to convey information to and from parents. Governors can be contacted via the Clerk.
All documents relating to the policies and responsibilities of the Governing Body are available upon application to the Clerk to the Governors. Copies of any such documents will be made available upon request, with a nominal charge for photocopying made to offset the costs incurred.

FOOLS (Friends of Old Leake Primary)……
The school is very fortunate to have a very active fund-raising group, who help fund some vital school equipment. Each Christmas they treat the children to an outing or a Christmas present. In the past they have funded the purchase of audio and ICT equipment, a pond and wildlife area, an adventure playground, and upgrading of the library. They hold meetings every term, including an Annual General Meeting each September, to which everyone is welcome. New members are welcome at any time of the year by contacting Mrs Mackay at the school.
Various social and fund-raising events take place each year, the highlights being the Annual Summer Gala, Race Night and Themed Ball. Their splendid efforts have raised over £40,000.
